"We spend a great deal of time in our side yard...our outdoor oasis. It’s our sanctuary, favorite getaway spot and chill-out zone. It has been and most likely will always be a work in progress. Each year we add something different or change out a spot here and there because style has a fluidity to it. The garden beds all around our yard are full of plants—native, perennials, annuals (lots of self-seeding ones), trees and shrubs—so of course plants are the stars of our side yard. They’re like guests you don’t mind staying around for a long time, and they help to bring the entertainment. Birds literally flock to our side yard, and we have spent countless hours just kicking back on the deck or patio watching their antics around the feeders we’ve set up for them. "
Johnny Roberts has spent a great deal of his life along the Susquehanna River and has called Lancaster County home since 1990. He's been the marketing coordinator for Isaac's Restaurants for 17 years, coincidentally the same amount of years he's been with his husband, Richard Helfrich, who recently completed schooling to be an LPN. Together with their standard poodle, Fritz, they live outside of the Tomato Capital of PA, Washington Boro.
