Every year, we look to the “color gods” to tell us our color forecast in home furnishings, interior design, paint, fashion and beauty products. In our industry, and many industries worldwide, Pantone is the authority on color that we look to for the Colors of the Year.
Take a deep breath, set aside your cell phone, and find a place of tranquility. Color experts predict 2016 will be the year of Rose Quartz, a warm rose tone, and Serenity, a cool tranquil blue. Pleasant Rose Quartz conveys a feeling of compassion and composure, while airy Serenity transmits relaxation. This year’s colors are meant to inspire us to “seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses,” says Pantone. With colors naturally found in a perfect sunset, we think the expression of these ideals comes effortlessly.
Instantly thinking about baby blue and baby pink? So was Pantone. “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” Pantone explains. So, as weightless and soft as the colors feel, they also carry a lot of creative expression regarding gender equality.

Pantone also recommends combining the year’s hottest hues with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. If you’re looking for harmony in a hectic world, consider adding Rose Quartz and Serenity in your home with these inspiring pieces from local shops.
