Stage Door Series Presents Shakespeare in Hollywood
Gamut Theatre North 4th St., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17101
Shakespeare in Hollywood, by popular playwright and York, PA native Ken Ludwig, imagines what sorts of silliness might have occurred if the real Puck and Oberon had appeared in a puff of smoke and magic on the set of Warner Brother's 1934 Hollywood picture A Midsummer Night's Dream. When the actors cast in the roles of Oberon and Puck are temporarily unavailable (a historical fact of the film production), the real Oberon and Puck discover what the Hollywood star system of the 1930s was like as they fill in to play themselves. Much like the original play, magic and love and slapstick comedy situations collide with hilarious results in this original mash-up. Originally presented years ago by the Stage Door series as a reading, this remounting will incorporate previous cast members and an expanded group of new players as well. This smart, fast-paced comedy leaves audiences howling with laughter--don't miss it!
