The Gettysburg Foundation is pleased to welcome the public to an exciting new program for Cyclorama lovers that long to go beyond the basics. Hosted by Licensed Battlefield Guide Chris Brenneman, Secrets of the Cyclorama, reveals many little known modifications and important context to the historic painting. The program takes place at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center.
Brenneman kicks off the evening with a 30-minute presentation describing his dramatic findings while researching his latest book (with Sue Boardman and Bill Dowling), The Gettysburg Cyclorama: The Turning Point of the Civil War on Canvas.
Afterward, participants will view the Cyclorama and discuss some of the people and places that are visible in the painting. Brenneman will highlight areas where troops, generals and scenery were added in 1889. He will also share information about the historic “keys” created to help viewers interpret the painting. Visitors will see magnified views of the painting illustrating his points and a question and answer period will take place after the discussion.
