Second Annual Mille for MS Road Rally
to
Sun Motor Cars Porsche Carlisle Pike #1, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17050
Start your engines! The Mille for MS road rally returns October 18-19, along with Sun Motor Cars/Porsche as the title sponsor, and an opportunity for car enthusiasts to live out their automotive fantasy with a local appearance by the famed Porsche Sport Driving School.
The Mille for MS, Presented by Porsche, is patterned after Italy’s Mille Miglia, and starts from Sun Motors’ Porsche dealership off the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg early on Saturday October 19th. The rally is open to owners of pre-war, vintage (1962 and older) and modern sports cars, as well as other exotic cars of all makes and models.
Last year’s inaugural event exceeded the goal of 50 cars by attracting 70 drivers and raising nearly $25,000 for the Central PA Chapter of the MS Society. This year’s event includes a new route, as well as new features and pit stop locations. Sponsors have a chance to pilot the latest Porsche models on the Sun Motors test track with instructors from the Porsche Sport Driving School.
On Friday evening there will be a reception, silent auction, and a “concours”-style display of all participating cars. During this time, members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite car in exchange for a contribution to MS.
On Saturday, the rally continues with a day-long course along 100-150 miles of public roads, making pit stops at Ski Roundtop and the Carlisle Fairgrounds, and ending at the formal Italian gardens of Felicita Mountain Resort & Spa, north of Harrisburg. The new route will take drivers through the Central Pennsylvania countryside, including Gettysburg, Carlisle and Harrisburg, rallying at various checkpoints.
“We were proud to be a part of the inaugural Mille, and look forward to an even greater event this year,” said Sun Motors/Porsche General Manager Steve Baun. “Sports car owners are a unique breed, and this is a unique event. It’s not your typical fundraiser. What it is, is a chance to help find a cure for MS and do what you love to do – drive.”
Organizers stress that the Mille for MS is not a race, but a road rally where participants drive on public roads, reaching various checkpoints in times allotted, and following all local and state speed limits and other regulations. The goal is to reach the checkpoints and finish as near to the allotted time window as possible. Navigators ride along with the drivers to remind them of speed limits and directions throughout the route.
“Last year’s event exceeded everyone’s expectations,” said Mille chairman Michael Pavone, “and we actually had to turn drivers away. Personally, I was proud of the huge variety of machines represented, including American muscle, European, classics, and a number of exotics. If you appreciate fine road machines, this is a great way to spend a Friday evening and a Saturday drive – all in support of finding a cure for MS.”
