2017 marks 10 years since LMI Advertising’s founder, Gary Bellanca was diagnosed with early on-set dementia at age 55. He was re-diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia three and half years later. Frontotemporal dementia is a rare disorder that affects the front (frontal lobes) and the sides (temporal lobes) of the brain. Frontotemporal has a more rapid onset than Alzheimer’s disease. There are no treatments approved by the FDA for frontotemporal dementia, and none that have been shown to be effective. As the number of diagnosed patients continues to rise, the need for funding research is paramount.
A Race to Remember has helped to raise over $536,000 to help to provide support and to further research to develop treatment and ultimately find a cure.
