Lost and Found: The Discovery of Fort Morris

For more than 100 years the location of Fort Morris, a Pennsylvania provincial fort dating to 1756-1764, was debated by historians and scholars.  Learn how multidisciplinary research, incorporating archaeology, history, and cultural geography, was employed to discover the site in Shippensburg, PA.

Steve Warfel has conducted archaeological investigations on prehistoric and historic period sites for the past forty-five years.  Steve holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Anthropology and was The State Museum of Pennsylvania's Senior Curator of Archaeology from 1980 until retirement in June 2007.  He is presently and archaeological consultant and recently supervised investigations at historic period sites in York, Lancaster, Cumberland, and Adams counties.
