Jazz in the City, a staple on First Fridays in downtown York, is back!

Percussionist Jeff Stabley, adjunct faculty and instructor of Jazz Studies, Percussion, and Improvisation at York College, is at the helm once again as the Artistic Director of this monthly ensemble of talented local and regional musicians eager to perform live once again.

Dred “Perky” Scott has been a stalwart in the East Coast jazz scene for over 50 years. He has honed his chops with every significant musician to come in and out of the area over since he was a teenager. Sam Banks, Cedric Lawson, Marcus Belgrade, Kenny Barron, Steve Rudolph, Max Roach, Ronnie Waters, and Jimmy Wood to name a few. For over twenty five years he has been MC and Performer at the “World’s Greatest Jazz Festival”, the Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival; hosting an amazing array of the best ‘smooth” and contemporary Jazz artist on the scene.

On piano is a jazz legend, composer and educator Steve Rudolph. Steve has fourteen recordings as band leader, producer, arranger and performer on many recordings including sessions with Johnny Coles, Bill Goodwin, Ali Ryerson, Matt Wilson, Drew Gress, Cal Collins, Jonathan Raggonese, Phil Haynes, Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, JD Walter and Vinny Valentino, and is also the co-founder of Central PA Friends of Jazz.

One of Central PA's most in-demand double bassists, Steve Meashey has been perfecting his craft for decades. Adept at practically any style of music, and performing with a wide range of artists, February will mark Steve's second appearance at our newly relaunched Jazz in the City series.

Our resident band leader Jeff Stabley, composer, studio drummer and educator, who has played with notable musicians like Greg Kihn, Donnie and Marie Osmond, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Eddie Money, Arturo Sandoval, Tim Warfield, Kirk Reese, Jimmy Wood, Steve Rudolph, Ronnie Waters and many others.

Whether you are a jazz aficionado, a casual listener, or have not yet been exposed to the art form, Jazz in the City is for you!

Seating is general admission, and tickets for Jazz in the City are only $10 in advance, $15 day of event, and are free for students, with student I.D.

UPDATE: Masks are required at all performances until further notice.

All patrons are required to present one of the following to attend events at the Strand Theatre, Capitol Theatre and The Studio:

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination OR

A negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 5 days of performance time OR

A negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 24 hours of performance time

A valid photo ID
