Faust, Opera in Concert

OperaLancaster will present Gounod’s melodic masterwork Faust, in Concert, sung in English, on Friday, May 10th, and Saturday, May 11th, at the Winter Center on the campus of Millersville University. Both performances are at 7:30PM.
Lyrical and richly scored, Faust contains some of the best-known melodies in opera. Based on the classic play by Goethe, the work is the timeless story of a desperate man’s encounter with evil.
Faust, an aging scholar, is looking back at a life wasted pouring over studies which have only caused him to miss out on love. He tries to end it all by drinking poison but, Mephistopheles appears and offers him restored youth in a tonic in return for his soul. He is transformed into a young man and falls in love with Marguerite, an innocent and entrancing maiden.
Faust, in Concert will feature full orchestra and chorus, visually enhanced by projection of images, supertitles and the major roles in colorful costumes.
