Shirley Alston Reeves, co-founder and lead vocalist of The Shirelles, garnered international fame in the early 60s when the group placed six singles in the Top 10, including “Soldier Boy,” “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “Mama Said” and “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.”
Lenny Dell’s Demensions, a Doo Wop band that originated in New York and found popularity in the early 60s, first scored radio airplay as a result of New York DJ, Cousin Brucie, who began spinning the group’s version of “Over the Rainbow.”
