The Celebration of Women in the Sciences is a day-long event designed to foster and highlight the contributions of women across the STEM disciplines—from purely academic fields such as biology and physics to more applied fields of physical therapy and actuarial science. As part of Lebanon Valley College’s 2014-15 Colloquium Series dedicated to the theme of “gender,” the speakers, presentations and discussions held throughout the day will encourage all participants to think deeply about the way that gender and gender roles shape the past, present and future of STEM disciplines. All students are welcome to participate in this event and experience the challenging and inclusive academic environment that awaits those who wish to pursue their education at Lebanon Valley College.
The day will begin with classroom presentations and activities designed to showcase the innovative and collaborative work conducted by LVC students and faculty. A keynote address will be given by Natalie Panek, a rocket scientist and advocate for women in the technology fields. The day will conclude with discussions hosted by successful LVC alumnae on a range of topics.
