Blackletter, also known as Gothic script or “Old English” was widely used from approximately 1150 to the 17th century. Fraktur was derived from these letters. You will learn how to construct the minuscules and how to space them on a page of lettering. The capitals and some decorative elements will be introduced. You will learn the technique of writing with the pointed pen. It differs from broad pen calligraphy both in the tool and manner of making the strokes. This cursive script if beautiful with thicks and thins produced by the hand and tool. It is often used for formal applications. Many flourishes can be added to the basic strokes.
