Arts Symposium Series: Marc Bamuthi Joseph, spoken word artist

On October 12, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, spoken word artist and community activist will present the first Arts Symposium Series lecture, entitled "The Creative Ecosystem." This event will kick-off the "Arts at Millersville," and will be held from 10 a.m. - noon in Biemesderfer Concert Hall at the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center.
About the Event: Joseph will present on engaging diverse communities through the arts. Joseph places his own socially engaged creative practice in the context of larger cultural and political discussions and makes an argument for hybrid and interdependent roles of artists, funders and audiences in sustaining American culture in its current moment. This presentation will be followed by a community roundtable, including local arts organizations, on developing an interdisciplinary, integrated community for creative and environmental action. An interactive discussion will follow exploring new modes of collaboration and deep community engagement in the artistic process, addressing how the creative ecosystem can thrive locally in its role in promoting social change.
