The Couple
Jennifer & Adam Blackford
The Big Day
October 1, 2011
The Theme
A black tie affair in black, ivory and antique pink, this wedding exuded elegance. Various elements pointed to Jenn’s “muse,” Holly Golightly, Audrey Hepburn’s character in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Favors were antique key ornaments, since this character was always forgetting her door key.
The Threads
Wanting a dress that was “equally stunning in the back,” the bride went with an Anais Collezioni gown in antique ivory with a train-length sash; a ruffled shrug, jeweled headband, glass-beaded veil, and pewter Manolo slingbacks added chic touches. Bridesmaids were in ruffled black A-lines and black satin gloves, with chandelier earrings and triple-stranded pearl bracelets made by the groom’s mother. The groomsmen wore black tuxes with DIY bow ties. The flower girl’s full-skirted tulle gown and the ring bearer’s white Eton suit were equally classy.
The Details
Pink lighting accented the elongated windows and chandeliers of the Yorktowne’s Mirror Room. Pearls, rhinestones and antique roses abounded, while trumpet vases dripped with pearls, filled with spiky spider mums and vertical blooms. Classy pocket invita- tions, stuffed with antique keys, were mailed in square pink envelopes. Street signs commemorated favorite places, like Central High, where the couple met. Made in York snacks (Snyder pretzels, Stauffer ginger snaps, Martin's BBQ chips, York peppermint patties) welcomed out-of-town guests arriving at the hotel.
The Cuisine
Meal choice icons featured a fish, a cow or a carrot, designating Pan-Seared Barramundi on Shrimp Risotto with Lemon Beurre Blanc, Grilled Filet Mignon with Truffled Red Wine Demi Glace, or Tri-color Cheese Tortellini Tossed in Garlic Cream Sauce.
The Traditions
Same church, same reception venue as the bride’s parents. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” mirrored her parents’ selection of Judy Garland’s version. The bride and her father danced to Phil Collins’ “One More Night,” his long-ago lullaby to her.
The Hitch
Various York-area events, including Bike Night, a Revolution playoff game, a k.d. lang concert, and a high school football game, caused the rehearsal dinner to be named in the paper as a co-contributor to traffic congestion that night.

The Celebrity
A surprise sighting of k.d. lang became an inside joke: “Didn’t I just see...”
