The Couple
Greg & Bekke Repka
The Big Day
September 9, 2011
The Unexpected Guest
Hurricane Irene was not invited, but she came anyway. Despite the risks of an outdoor wedding, the picturesque Lime Spring Farm won this couple over. When the weather hit, Bekke’s “dream team of vendors” and family consoled her and stepped up their game. Umbrellas from her father became great props for iconic photos. Rosebud heels were swapped for flashy plaid rain boots, a gift from the groom.
The Details
Moss green and rosy pink florals were interspersed with roses, Victoria Blue Salvia, Pink Godetia, and spring-green Queen Anne’s Lace. A single pink calla lily made a stunning bouttonniere. Elegantly dilapidated shutters displayed hand-made seating cards indoors. Collected for a year by the couple, antique glass bottles in jewel tones with individual blooms became favors. Topping the stellar pink and green cake was a pair of dachshunds, in lieu of the couple’s weiner dog Gracie’s actual attendance.
The Unexpected Dance Fever
Despite— or because of—the rain, the guests rocked out to the tunes. Greg joined in the “snowball,” which involved “grabbing guests to dance with you” until “probably 90% of the guests were on the dance floor.”
Hurricane Irene was not invited, but she came anyway, and the bride traded her rosebud heels for flashy plaid boots.
The Unexpected Hits
Thinking the root beer float bar might be popular with the younger folks, Bekke was surprised to see her parents and grandparents first in line. Guests caught on to the Mad Libs guest book; some were “definitely R-rated.”
The Best Idea
As Greg visited guests, he often found himself at a distance from Bekke. Finally his uncle Mike offered this advice: “We all know you’re here, you’re having a good time, we love you. Now go be with your wife.”
The Worst Idea
Greg’s father suggested they name their first child Irene. The couple declined.
The Honeymoon
Greg is so not a beach person. And also not a boat person. But Bekke talked him into a Mediterranean cruise featuring Cirque Du Soleil and Blue Man Group. But it was Majorca, with its iconic doorways and parades with giant masked characters on 30-foot stilts, that won their hearts.
