Looking for the perfect flower arrangement to carry in an outdoor wedding? Combining both movement and unique floral combinations, consider trying a freeform flower bouquet.
“They often look like they are having a little party. Doesn’t everyone want to carry a party bouquet?” said Kristiana Amberger of Wild Indigo Floral Designs. Amberger’s freeform flower bouquets combine a number of perfectly-hued flowers and greenery that look as though they are exploding from their wrapping.
Freeform “bouquets are different because they have so much movement. When a bride walks with her bouquet I want it to move with her,” said Amberger.
Such bouquets stand out for their depth and abstract shape, along with tying in verdant leaves to pops of color.
“When creating a bouquet, I work in layers. I typically start with greenery and the larger blooms. From there I work outwards creating layers. Some of my favorites, I call them flirty flowers, include butterfly ranunculus and sweet peas. These are the ones that I like to stick really far out of a bouquet and they are added last,” said Amberger.
Dried and Preserved Arrangements
Imagine having dried flowers from your wedding bouquet saved in a sentimental book to eventually pass down to your kids or family. While a corny idea for some, this could be a valuable wedding memento that has a multitude of potentials. The crisp edges and muted colors of dried flowers in a meticulously organized bouquet lends itself well to the bright whites of typical weddings, too.
Local flower shop Pollinate, (@pollinate.floraldesigns on Instagram) specializes in hand curated dried flower arrangements. From elaborate table centerpieces to wall hangings and wreaths, Pollinate creates many types of dried arrangements. While these bouquets don’t last forever, they can certainly withstand the wedding season for longer than live, fresh florals.
Utilizing dried and preserved floral arrangement for your wedding is a cost-effective and low-maintenance option for bridal party bouquets.
Dried floral arrangements do not wilt like live flowers do and can be shipped from around the country which is particularly useful for destination weddings. Additionally, the humidity and temperature of your big day will not affect the preservation of your dried flowers, according to Pick A Bloom. So whether you’re tying the knot in the brisk cold of a Central PA winter, or in the lush humidity of a Caribbean excursion, dried flowers are resilient.

Planning to keep the wedding party going all week long? Luxuriously realistic-looking faux floral bouquets are a great way to save your perfect wedding bouquet forever. Whether the bouquet lives on to serve as a memento or you reuse it for your next special event, with faux flowers the possibilities are endless.
“Over the years, the artificial floral market has made leaps and bounds in the direction of creating highly realistic flowers, mainly in the newer “real-touch” technology. This provides not only a richer visual, but also the feel of real petals,” said owner and designer of Fuller Impressions, Kent Fullerton.
When designing bouquets and arrangements with artificial flowers, Fullerton likes to mix different flower sizes and textures to give each design a full, organic appearance. It can be difficult for the eye to distinguish if the bouquet is real or fake when using this layered approach.
“Luxury artificial florals create a lasting impression,” said Fullerton.
Rhinestone bouquets
For the wedding party infatuated with bling, skip the floral route altogether and opt for an entirely rhinestone, bejeweled bouquet. Etsy is a great place to look for a handmade custom bouquet such as this.
Pennsylvania-based Etsy shop JosieGirlbouquets makes a gorgeous ‘Bling Bling Wedding Bouquet’ comprised of “vintage and modern rhinestone brooches, earrings, pearl accents and white/ivory button stems as set on white/mint cast hydrangea base,” according to its Etsy description.
A rhinestone bouquet can be passed down through generations, and if nothing else, can live on your dining room table as a centerpiece for years to come after the big day.
Do you have a lot of inherited jewelry you would love to see repurposed in a meaningful way? Consider using it to make your own rhinestone bouquet! Reach out to a jeweler or Etsy shop to create an upcycled, bedazzled bouquet.
