More Space, More Life
Whether you’re flying to Amsterdam or driving to Disney World this summer, thoroughly enjoying a vacation starts with what and how you pack (and probably who you go with, but that’s another article).
Below are some packing ideas to think about that can make your life easier and set you up for summer success.
- I like to start packing a week early because I inevitably remember small, important details the last few days before a trip. In fact, I’d suggest writing a list and adding to it as you pack so you can make your next trip even easier to prepare for.
- A helpful tip I picked up from my friends in the fashion industry is to pack light dresses and clothes that mix and match. Accessories like scarves and necklaces don’t take up a lot of space, but can be used to really change up a look.
- If you tend to pack a lot of items “just in case,” consider packing only half of what you think you’ll need this time around. Allow for some extra cash in case of an emergency shopping trip, but as you probably know, chances are that you’ll be fine (and who doesn’t like a shopping trip on vacation?).
- My grandma taught me to roll my clothes in my drawers to keep them from getting wrinkled, so I take her advice for my suitcase too. Not only do they show up to my destination wrinkle-free, it saves me room in my bag!
- If you haven’t visited The Home Edit yet (thehomeedit.com), I’d highly recommend checking them out for organizing advice on everything from packing to color-coordinating your bookshelves (I know, not the most practical thing, but it can be therapeutic). They suggest using packing cubes (calpaktravel.com/collections/packing-cubes) to keep categories separate, contained, and wrinkle-free. Compression bags are another option if you’re not as concerned with style.
- If you’re flying, always always always pack an extra set of clothes in your carry on. I’d add a dopp kit for toiletries (with a hook for a bonus) as well. Airlines and the weather aren’t as reliable as we’d hope, so it’s best to be prepared. At the very least, you have more peace of mind and confidence going into the airport if you know there’s a backup plan.
