All too often women find themselves standing in front of a closet full of clothes with absolutely nothing to wear. Sometimes our wardrobes are just "tired.” Maybe you still have clothes haunting your closet from high school or pieces you once loved that just don't love you back anymore. Or maybe your wardrobe is bursting at the seams... you know, that pair of pants that fit snug, but were on sale for $19.99, or that sweater that was trendy two years ago.
Whether you need to do some major cleaning and clearing of your closet, need to update a few pieces, or just desire to mix and match more creatively, I believe that every woman's closet needs a few key wardrobe essentials. In this post I will list ten pieces that will make getting dressed for any occasion easier and more enjoyable.
Think of these pieces as a backbone, the basic ingredients of an outfit to which you can add your own flair, thus creating your own signature style. Of course I'm not suggesting that your wardrobe must be limited to ten pieces, but these pieces will be the ones that never let you down, will be a great "go to" every time and will provide you with the basic foundation of building a versatile and dependable wardrobe.
I also love that all of these pieces can be found at both high and low prices. Choosing quality over quantity can be tough to practice, but remember these clothes will be your closet workhorses so they will need to hold up over time.
Using these basic pieces as a starting point, now you can add your own favorite colors, accessories, and style to each outfit:
1. Dark wash skinny jean
2. Black blazer
3. Striped tunic
4. Black knee-length skirt
5. Denim/chambray shirt
6. Little black dress
7. Trench coat
8. Neutral-colored lightweight sweater
9. Black trouser pants
10. White button down blouse
Most importantly, remember that self-confidence is the first key essential and the very best part of any outfit!
