Do you have a room in your home that needs an update, could use some style, or just a little freshening up? It really doesn't require a gigantic budget or loads of time. Here are a few inexpensive and even free ideas to spruce up your space.
1. Change the pillows on your bed, couch, or chairs. Whether you put new covers on old pillows or purchase a few new pillows, changing this simple home accessory is obviously way less expensive than purchasing new furniture, but gives your bed, couch, or chair new style.
2. Contain clutter using boxes or baskets. The baskets/boxes add a decorative element and, better yet, keep all those piles hidden away.

3. Mat and frame pictures in inexpensive frames. This adds such a polished look to your home decor and don't be afraid to "go big" with your prints. Why have beautiful photos taken if you don't take the opportunity to show them off? A few weeks ago I found frames in my basement that I had taken down from my living room. I dusted them off and used them on an empty wall in my bedroom. This was essentially a free update!

4. Roll out a rug. Rugs can add color, texture, and warmth to a room.

5. Bring the outside in. A green plant or bouquet of flowers literally gives life to your space.

6. Create a gallery or accent wall. Maybe you love the color of your walls, but you can update it by simply painting an accent wall with a new color, design, or even wallpaper. Simpler yet, arrange a gallery of pictures and other decor to create a new focal point in the room.

7. Rearrange furniture. This idea is completely free. Move a piece of furniture from one room to another. When I was updating my daughter's nursery to a "big girl" room, I moved a rocker I had in a guest room over to her bedroom to add some color and give it a new look. Best yet, it didn't cost a dime.

8. Change the knobs on dressers, end tables, cabinets, buffets, etc. You can find very inexpensive knobs at home improvement stores or home decor stores like Home Goods. Again, this is another simple update I did in my daughter's bedroom. Adding the gold polka-dot knobs completely changed the look of the furniture and actually made it look like a more expensive piece.

9. Use mirrors to add more "space" to the room. A mirror can create an illusion that the room is larger than it is and can be an inexpensive large-scale piece added to the huge empty wall.

10. Layer with new blankets and throws. This adds a "cozy" factor to a room while also bringing in a new punch of color, pattern, and texture.

Your home should be a place that makes you happy! Use these tips to update those "stale" spaces and create an even happier place to call home.
