In case you hadn’t heard, my daughter Holden is quite the fashion plate. I chronicle her unique fashion choices via the hashtag #whatholdywore on Instagram.
Luckily for budding couturiers like Holden, York City Boutique Week returns September 1-5 for its fourth year. A whole week dedicated to shopping, hands-on demos, meeting designers, drinking cocktails, perusing trunk shows (non-alcoholic for Holdy, of course), and culminating with the Boutique Week Fashion Show on Saturday, September 5.
Boutique Week isn’t just for us big kids: little kids can get in on the fashion fun as well. Several downtown shops feature clothing and accessories for pint-size fashionistas.
Kimman’s
57 N. Beaver St.
During Boutique Week, Kimman’s will launch their new Tea Collection children’s line. Tea brings worldwide cultures and modern design to children's fashion. Twice each year the company packs their bags, travels the globe, explores and discovers, and then brings it all home in original designs that express the spirit of their adventures abroad. The name derives from the drink shared in nearly every nation around the globe.
Elizabeth & West 15 N. Beaver St.
Elizabeth & West features the Violet & Burke children’s line, from adorable baby moccasins to patterned leggings and rompers, bandana bibs and headbands. Violet & Burke comes from the mind and sewing machine of local mom, blogger and designer, Tabitha Phillips.
Arthur & Daughters 49 N. Beaver St.
Arthur & Daughters carries these adorable Two Roberts Bespoke Bow Ties for both big guys and little guys. Plus, my favorite “Made in York” onesies and t-shirts, printed in York on super soft organic cotton. Sizes 3/6 months-4T.
Redeux 113 S. Duke St.
Redeux has these adorable upcycled men’s shirt dresses for little girls from The Bee. Holden has been rocking these dresses for years.
Boutique Week Eats
Kids can also eat their way through Boutique Week, with specials at various downtown eateries, including Bair’s Fried Chicken, Baron Von Schwein, Just Cupcakes, York City Pretzel Company, and the Green Bean (coffee-free frappes, anyone?).
Boutique Week Events
On First Friday, September 4, children can join in the Boutique Week fun with a “Frozen” First Friday event at Central Market (34 W. Philadelphia Street) from 6-8pm, complete with a visit from Princesses Anna and Elsa.
That evening, Central Market will host kid-friendly vendors, face painting, snacks, and a photo booth. Children are invited to wear their fairytale costumes and have a little Boutique Week runway fun with the Frozen princesses.
On Saturday, September 5, Central Market and The Enchanted Teapot will host a Frozen Tea Party for children and their parents. The tea party times are 10-11:30 a.m. and 12-1:30 p.m., with Anna and Elsa arriving at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Partygoers will enjoy a fruit cup, tea sandwiches, desserts juices, and teas (nut-free items can be made available). Once the princesses arrive, the children will enjoy singalongs, games, face-painting and a Frozen-themed craft.
Tickets are $20 for two people and can be purchased by emailing: theenchantedteapot01@gmail.com.
