Susquehanna Chorale Presents "A Candlelight Christmas"
to
Messiah College, High Center College Ave., Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17055
THE STAR IN THE EAST is at the heart of our traditional Christmas concert. The program opens by candlelight with Alice Parker’s setting of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, followed by John Ferguson’s Comfort, Comfort Ye My People. They set the stage for Italian Ottorino Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity, scored for soloists, choir, and small chamber orchestra. Respighi blends various musical styles, from the medieval to the contemporary, in a beautiful re-creation of the mystery and magnitude of the shepherds’ experience in the starry fields of Bethlehem. Traditional songs and carols (some for the audience!) follow, with arrangements of What Child Is This?, I Wonder as I Wander, White Christmas, and more. But what is Christmas without some light-hearted holiday cheer? Phillip Brunelle’s Rudolph Rubrinasis (Latin for the world’s most famous reindeer) and Mack Wilberg’s Jingle Bells will give you plenty to smile about before the Chorale’s signature, candlelit finale, Silent Night sung in the round.
Price: $20 in advance, $25 at the door, $5 students
