Southwest Tapestry Weaving with Susan Weaver

Students spend two days exploring a wide range of geometric design elements in their study of the Southwest tapestry weave structure. By learning the principles of weft-faced tapestry, the design builds on the loom by weaving row by row, and by joining different blocks of color. Students delve into various techniques, such as dovetail, Navajo and slit joins, development of angles, diagonals and hatching. There will also be a short overview of Southwest and Mexican cultural weaving traditions, offering a background of the techniques and tradition of weaving tapestry.
