Slip Cast Mold Making for Tiles with Lisa Muller
to
Pennsylvania Guild Center of American Craft N. Queen St., Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17603
Skill Level: Intro/Refresher – beginners to intermediate welcome
Class Description: Slip casting is often used as an alternative to press-molding for tile making. Although the molds for both techniques are similar, why would one choose slip casting over press molding?
In this one day workshop, students will discuss, observe, and learn first hand how open face molds are made for slip casting tile, and why it may be the right vehicle for their imagery or work style. After a demonstration of plaster mold making, students will work directly in clay to develop a castable “positive” using carving, stamping and sprigging. Ms. Muller will demonstrate working into the mold itself, while going over the whole process from slip to glaze, including earthenware glazes, engobes, and how to increase surface interest. Students may cast their individual plaster molds outside of this class.
Materials Fee: $20 made payable to the instructor at the time of class will cover all materials needed for the class, as well as a set of tools to take home to continue working.
Price: $135
