On November 14, the Millersville Library Student Advisory Board (LSAB) will facilitate a Reflect and Connect Series discussion on the importance of early literacy skills and reading to children using "Literacy 8-12 Months: What Are Babies Learning?" by Laurie Makin, from the Journal Early Years (Vol, 26, No. 3, October 2006, pp. 267-277). The LSAB has asked that students focus their reading on pages 269-237.
This event will be held from 5-6:15 p.m. in the Ford Atrium, McComsey Hall.
About the Series: The Reflect & Connect Series is a series of gatherings where community members - faculty, students, staff and residents in the larger community - read short pieces of literature on service, reflect on civic engagement and connect with the community. This year-long series features three meeting each semester. Participants are welcome to join individual sessions or attend them all.
Prior to each event, participants register for the session, obtain the reading about civic engagement from the Huntington House on campus or through links on Facebook and read a short (1-3 page) text. At the event, facilitators - faculty, staff or students - organize discussion and activities to help participants reflect on the literature as it relates to service and civic engagement.
At the end of each of the meetings during the semester, individuals will have opportunities for getting involved/volunteering/connecting with the community based on the topic of that months Reflect & Connect.
