On March 9, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, the oldest choir of its kind in the United States, will perform "Mendelssohn's Elijah." Joining Maestro Greg Funfgeld, of the Bach Choir and Orchestra, will be the Millersville University Keystone Singers. This event will be held at 3 p.m. at the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center.
Dr. Mark A. Boyle, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music at Millersville, will also perform as the tenor soloist.
About the Performance: Mendelssohn's choral masterpiece Elijah is a fiery oratorio that recounts the story of the biblical prophet with vast and intense drama. After its premiere in London in 1846, The Times of London reported "Never was there a more complete triumph - never a more thorough and speedy recognition of a great work of art." Distinguished soloists include Washington favorite Rosa Lamoreaux, soprano, and in the title role of Elijah, bass-baritone Dashon Burton, praised in the New York Times for his "enormous, thrilling voice seemingly capable of raising the dead."
