The Milk Carton Kids are a Grammy-nominated folk/indie duo consisting of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. Together since 2011, they were named Americana Music Association’s Duo/Group of the Year in 2014. Over the past decade, the band has recorded and released six albums: Retrospect, Prologue, The Ash & Clay, Monterey, All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn’t Do, and the most recent release, The Only Ones, featuring a stripped-down acoustic set and a return to the core of what they are about musically: the duo. They’ve toured with the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show, The Lumineers, Jason Isbell and Mumford & Sons, and they’ve appeared on the NPR Tiny Desk concert series, Austin City Limits, Conan, and Jimmy Kimmel Live among others.
The Milk Carton Kids feature vocal harmonies, acoustic guitars, and rootsy songwriting. When they’re touring, they’re known for their on-stage, adversarial, comedic banter as well as their virtuosic guitar skills: Pattengale’s intricate picking and Ryan’s airtight rhythm guitar. Though the’ve drawn comparisons to Simon & Garfunkel, the Civil Wars, and the Everly Brothers, The Milk Carton Kids are proudly their own entity, established and with a strong enough catalog to stand out amongst the folk/Americana/indie crowd.
