Making the Seasonal Transition with the Native Nations Dance Theater
On Sunday, October 4, 2015 LVC’s Office of Spiritual Life in collaboration with the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery and the American Indian Studies Club will present “Making the Seasonal Transitions,” featuring the Native Nations Dance Theater, “Mingled Visions: Images from the North American Indian Collection,” and a reception featuring native American foods.
The Native Nations Dance Theater is a professional touring dance company based in Philadelphia who have traveled to over 500 schools worldwide. Performers wear a traditional regalia. Presentations are based on Native American legends and oral traditions.
From 4-5 p.m. guests will visit the art exhibit “Mingled Visions: Images from the North American Indian Collection” by Edward S. Curtis, a traveling exhibition of photograph organized by the Dubuque Museum of Art, Dubuque, Iowa (on display from August 28 – October 18, 2015) in the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery. Also included are North American Indian artifacts on loan from the Hershey Story, the Museum on Chocolate Avenue.
The dance performance starts at 5 p.m. in the adjacent Zimmerman Hall, which will be followed by a reception featuring Native American foods, such as baked salmon, turkey meatballs, wild rice corn fritters, and sweet fry bread. This event is free and open to the public. To register, please email nsmith@lvc.edu by Wednesday, September 30, or call 717-867-6135.
