Lecture: "Speaking Truth about Social Justice in Education"
Reighard Multipurpose Room, Student Memorial Cente Millersville University, Millersville, Pennsylvania 17551
On November 1, the Color of Teaching Mentoring Program at Millersville University will host Dr. David Stovall, associate professor of educational policy studies and African-American studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, who will address the campus and local community. His lecture, entitled "Speaking Truth about Social Justice in Education," will be held at 7 p.m. in Reighard Multipurpose Room in the Student Memorial Center.
About Stovall: Stovall's scholarship investigates four areas: Critical race theory, concepts of social justice in education, the relationship between housing and education and the relationship between schools and community stakeholders. In the attempt to bring theory to action, he has spent the last 10 years working with community organizations and schools to develop curriculum that address issues of social justice. His current work has led him to become a member of the Greater Lawndale/Little Village School of Social Justice High School design team, where he also serves as a volunteer social studies teacher.
On November 2, Stovall will also be the keynote speaker at the 8th annual Millerville University Teacher Ed Day from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Reighard Multipurpose Room in the Student Memorial Center.
Price: This event is free and open to the public.
