Donald E. Markle will speak on his newest book, "The Fox and the Hound, the Birth of American Spying" (Hippocrene, April 2014). Most books about espionage in the American Revolution tend to focus solely on George Washington, but as noted historian Donald E. Markle explores in his fascinating account, there was an entire system of intelligence communication autonomous from Washington’s direction. As the conflict progressed, the Americans and British learned each other’s tactics, intensifying the desperate play for information that might have tipped the scales of war in either direction. Copies will be available for purchase, and Mr. Markle will sign his book following the discussion. The event is free and open to the public.
