4 Wednesdays: October 3 – 24Skill Level: All skill levels welcome! Class is open to ages 10 – 14.
Instructor Debbie Serdy takes kids on a four week Eco-Fabulous adventure through fashion! Students delve into recycling their old clothing & accessories, and leave each day with new, creative, and handmade wardrobe additions! From shirts & jewelry to hats & shoes! Create an entire outfit just in time for Fall Fashion! The class occurs after school hours, from 3:30 – 5:30, the first four Wednesdays in October.
Wednesday, October 3: Rip it to shreds – Build a Better T-Shirt
Cut it, slash it, rip it and stretch it! Students reconstruct the basic tee into a new and improved fashion statement.
Please bring to class: 5 old clean t-shirts, fabric scissors if you have them, needle and thread
Wednesday, October 10: Jewelry From the Toolbox; The Nuts & Bolts of Hard-wear.
In this class you will create 2 – 3 pieces of jewelry with a street wear urban vibe. Who knew nuts, o-rings, s-hooks, industrial chain, and rubber tubing could be so fashionable!
Please bring to class: 1 old, clean t-shirt, jewelry plyers: 2 needle nose and one for cutting, any old hardware you might have around such as nuts, wing nuts, old chain, washers, ear wires.
Wednesday, October 17: The Great Sweater Chop Up
And you thought that wool sweater you shrunk in the wash was ruined. Debbie will show you how to transform that “useless” sweater into a hat, leg warmers, cuffs, neck cozy, scarf and more!
Please bring to class: 3 felted wool, or natural fiber sweaters, embellishments such as buttons, patches, ribbons, etc and needle and thread
*To felt your sweaters wash in hot water with a bit of detergent and throw in the dryer. (Don’t wash too many sweaters at once, the fibers will clog up your washing machine).
Wednesday, October 24: Put Your Best Foot Forward; Creating Wearable Collage Shoes
Put a little spring in your step by giving a boring pair of shoes new life. Through the timeless art of collage, students can express themselves right down to the tips of their toes!
Please bring to class: A pair of shoes that need a new life. They have to have a smooth surface, think leather, vinyl or plastic. Fabric will not work very well. We will be creating collages out of magazine or newspaper clippings to the shoes. If you have any favorite magazine, or newspaper you would like to bring please do so.
