He is also the recipient of numerous distinctions including the 2001 Skowhegan Medal for Sculpture, the Whitney Biennial, 1993; an Alpert Award in the Arts-Visual Arts, 1999 and a John D. and Catherine T. McArthur Foundation Fellowship.
Osorio, best known for large-scale installations, was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Osorio's pieces, influenced by his experience as a social worker in the Bronx, usually evolve from an interaction with the community within which he is working. Osorio has worked with more than 25 communities across the U.S. and internationally, creating installations based on real life experiences.
