Valerie is the owner of aPIERances Salon. During Covid, Valerie ran a report of elderly clients that lived alone. She created a little bag of goodies and hand written notes and placed everything in a ziplock bag to drop off at client homes in a zero contact manner. A handful of clients requested help and she was able to connect the various agencies to them. She continues to inspire those in her community.
Who has been your biggest influence?
Several influences: Business wise - my dad with his hard drive to succeed. Dogged determination, I refuse to give up. Too bloody stupid. In high school I did a career paper and I interviewed a local salon owner & decided that is what I wanted to do - own a salon. I have a burning passion for the industry. I love to pass it on through teaching.
What motivated you to be involved in your community?
I love Lititz. I like to link people together who will help each other. Put people in touch with others = community. People helping people. example…. I just completed hosting the Lititz Cut-A-Thon. It raised funds for the non-profit Park who is in financial struggle. It also allowed little business to advertise to the participants and clients receiving haircuts. It also gave stylists & barbers the ability for connections to prospective clients and networking among their peers. It also gave some community members the ability to receive a haircut since covid shutdown, because they felt uneasy being indoors for services.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Stay away from men and be career minded. There’s always time. Learn all you can about your profession.
What’s your idea of self care?
Get to the water as fast as possible. Time for sailing, fishing, diving, water & sunset gazing. :)
What message do you have for the future generations of women?
Learn as much as you can. Grab knowledge. Gain financial freedom. Find your passion and pour yourself into it. Learn and keep on learning to connect people.
