“It was important to us to get married in the community we love surrounded by the people we love. So a little over two years ago we set upon planning the first ever wedding at the Broad Street Market in our Midtown neighborhood. As residents, we spend many Saturdays at the Market so we were excited to bring people there to show off all it has to offer. Building relationships within our community, and supporting local small businesses was also very important to us. This became even more meaningful when we were struggling with the uncertainty of the pandemic.”
THEIR LOVE STORY
Jake and I met through our work back in 2014. We both worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities at two different companies but were brought together for a meeting. It was one of my first experiences with a challenging parent and Jake offered support all the way through. A few minutes after leaving the meeting Jake took a chance and called my office to ask me out on a date which started our love story. We fell for each other quickly and soon moved in together in an apartment in Midtown Harrisburg. We completely fell in love with the neighborhood and the Broad Street Market. Then after six years together we found ourselves engaged, buying our first home in Midtown and planning a wedding during a global pandemic. It was definitely hectic and overwhelming at times but it was these experiences that turned our love story into an unbelievable foundation for our marriage.

THEIR INSPIRATION
During our initial tours/searches of wedding venues, we looked at a whole bunch of options between York, Lancaster and a couple in Harrisburg. But, we really kept coming back to how we wished we could have a wedding in Midtown. At the time, there wasn't really an option for a truly "Midtown Wedding" until one day we got to talking about the "what if's" of holding it at the Broad Street Market. We were regulars at The Market, typically going every weekend to either stock up on groceries or to grab something to eat, so the place itself was a bit part of our lives already. We just wanted to take it a step further and support our community.

THEIR FAVORITE PART
Our favorite part was that people kept commenting on how our wedding was "totally us." It was a bit of a leap of faith to build a wedding from scratch but to see it totally work out and not only that people enjoyed themselves and could see how it was the embodiment of our neighborhood: that was really special.
THEIR ADVICE
There are always going to be things that don't go your way. But it's about getting through all of the ups and downs leading up to The Big Day which makes it all worth it. Sometimes it's hard to see the big picture when you're in the middle of all of the planning, phone calls, emails, etc. But in the end, it's all worth it. Looking back now we are so grateful for our amazing photographer who made it possible for us to relive all of the day's special moments and the pictures that will be family keepsakes.
