The Couple
Meagan & Adam Jepson
The Big Day

Inspired by the movie Up , this was all about adventure
The Theme
Inspired by the movie Up, this was all about adventure, with 100 mystery keys, an intriguing standalone door and windows, and a 1979 Schwinn bicycle ready to be swept away by balloons. Vintage elements included a Goodwill bargain yellow suitcase (just 50 cents!), reclaimed items from Meagan’s family’s barn, and a 1929 secretary desk for notes to the couple. A garden-themed cake was topped with pale green deutzia, wine-colored viburnium, and delicate white spray roses. Pearl-centered white stephanotis set off callas, roses, and feverfew in French-ribbon-wrapped bouquets; Meagan sewed white feathers and pearls to a rose for her hair.
The Threads
The bride wore tulle over satin with jeweled embroidery, a birdcage veil, and sangria heels. Bridesmaids were in short, strapless cotton sateen dresses (also wine-colored) with ruched waists and pockets, with the maid of honor in charmeuse; the groomsmen sported sangria vests and bowties.
The Relationship
Meagan put together a scrapbook of their first year. About a year later, to propose, Adam made a new page announcing their engagement. United in their faith, the couple's ceremony reflected their deep commitment to God.
The Unexpected Touches
The groomsmen’s yellow argyle socks. Paper airplanes the guests threw at the couple. Croquet, bocce ball, and a wooden Viking game carved by an uncle. A photo booth with props. Favors of jams and apple butter canned by the bride’s mother. Yellow and purple sand in place of the unity candle (in deference to some serious wind).
The Hitches
Adam and Meagan work at a campus ministry, where they met. Their boss married them using an iPad. Unfortunately the few isolated raindrops kept turning the “pages.” Also conspiring to make the couple laugh were periodic clunks as the vintage keys fell off the programs.
The Find
President McKinley’s great-grand grandfather built the Cameron Estate mansion in 1805. The Federal-style inn, with its rose gardens, stone footbridge and Victorian décor, provided the ideal backdrop. It also accommodated the couple and their families in 15 of its 17 rooms, a way of the two families getting to know each other better. To mark the ceremony entrance, a wrought iron arch was entwined with Asian lillies.
