I believe flowers are always a good idea. They instantly make a space happy and always put a smile on someone's face. Flowers are the perfect way to say so many things, sometimes on a special occasion and others times for no reason at all.
While you can pick up or order from a professional florist, flower shop or online flower service, grocery store flowers are easily accessible and affordable. Here are a few tips to take them from drab to fab.
1. Unwrap flowers from plastic and rewrap them in brown paper, burlap or even in leftover wallpaper remnants. Tie with pretty ribbon or twine. These small tweaks make your flowers look special and more personalized.
2. Another way to add value to grocery store flowers is to make them into unique arrangements. Find inexpensive vases, crocks, jars or pitchers to hold your flowers. You can find these at thrift stores, yard sales, dollar stores, etc.
In this example, I'm using an old crock and placed a small globe vase inside to keep the flowers more upright.
I removed the outer leaves, cut the bottom off the stems and placed inside the case. This turned out to be a perfect spring arrangement.
3. In this last example, I made a very large arrangement with mixed bouquets that can always be found at grocery stores. I made this arrangement for a fraction of the cost of an arrangement this size purchased from a florist. I used 4 mixed bouquets that were $8.99 each. I found this galvanized bucket in my garage that added a lot of character to my arrangement.
Use floral or masking tape to create a grid on top of the bucket.
Start by inserting the longest stems in the middle and then work your way out to the edges. The grid helps to easily arrange the flowers and keeps them spread out and upright. Make sure you cut off the edges of the tape (unlike my example here-oops). This mixed bouquet bucket only cost me $36 but looks much more expensive!
