So you’ve finally decided to forge ahead with plans for your new interior. It’s an exciting time.Throughout my years of working with my clients as they embark on their design journey, and with few exceptions, it is almost always inevitable that feelings of doubt begin to creep in. The doubt that we experience is natural. Most big decisions in life cause us to second guess or over analyze. When these feelings begin to materialize, I share the following to keep my clients at ease and the project moving forward.
1. Instinct has meaning.
Recognize that some of your concerns may be valid, and if they are, we’ll work through them.
However, I also remind my clients that our first instinct, even in art and interiors, typically reflects our true design identity. So here’s the takeaway: don’t fight your initial instincts. Decisions that may seem to come easy in the beginning, often come easy for a reason… because they are the right ones.
2. What shade of beige?
Hours, days, months (and in one specific instance that is forever burned into my memory) even years, can be spent deliberating and laboring over finding the perfect shade of beige.Certain elements of your project deserve time and thoughtfulness. Others can, quite frankly, just become a dog chasing its tail and a waste of valuable time. There’s a point in every project where a decision has to be made and it’s time to forge forward. What’s the takeaway on this road block?Sometimes there can be more than one choice that is the perfect solution.
3. Trust the process.
Hiring a professional interior designer doesn’t mean that you’re relinquishing control. However, a good designer will always work to take you outside of your box and beyond your typically boundaries. Some of the projects that I have worked on have never reached their full aesthetic potential because of lack of trust or fear.Avoid this roadblock by entering the process with an open mind and an understanding that your designer has your best interest at heart. A professional perspective can often be the deciding factor between creating a room that is simply nice, versus a space that is simply spectacular.
