MUDROOM MAGIC
Designer, Owner, Photographer: Kimberely Boomer, Fit + Finish
General Contractor: Paul S Collins, General Contractor
Cabinetry: Horizon Kitchens
Quartz countertops, sable penny round tile, ample storage, built-in cubbies, double washer and dryer—need we say more? This garage turned laundry and mudroom combo is what every homeowner’s dreams are made of, and for a family of six, owner and designer, Kimberely Boomer of Fit + Finish, knew that practicality had to be at the top of the priority list for this client. But if there is one thing that Kimberely stays true to, it’s not sacrificing style for function. “[The homeowners] love that restoration hardware-transitional aesthetic. I believe in cohesion of elements, and combining modern accents like the light fixtures and metallic touches with traditional cabinets and herringbone hardwood made for a unique, yet classic look.”

Tips from the Expert
1. Embrace the unexpected.
“Maybe it’s by using a different wallpaper or a new coat of paint that can make the room pop with an unexpected element.”
2. Light up the room.
“Depending on the room and whether it’s logistically possible, a statement light fixture, like the candelabra chandelier we used in this space, helps elevate any room.”
3 Keep it simple.
“People underestimate how different a space can look with just updating cabinet storage. Even if you’re on a budget, some paint and a brush can make all the difference when it comes to upgrading your laundry room cabinets.”
Kimberly Boomer is the principal of Fit + Finish Design and has her NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification). With 20 plus years of experience, Kim has seen how deeply people’s experiences are tied to their physical environments. She listens carefully to her clients by tailoring each design to their needs and situation; whether it is a large commercial project or small residential renovation.
POWDER ROOM PERFECTION
Designer, Owner: Julie Estes, Carlisle Design, Interiors, and Consulting Group
Photographer: Ashlee Zimmerman
Go big or go home is how Julie Estes, owner of Carlisle Design, Interiors, and Consulting Group, describes the inspiration for this powder room project. “ It [powder room] was in the same general space as the dining room, which had navy and chartreuse details. We wanted it to be an extension of that.” Between mixing metals, a geometric light fixture, and wallpaper that complemented both the overall color palette and created movement, this lavish lavatory is not only functional, but also visually appealing.
Tips from the Expert
1. Don’t hold back.
Find a print or even stencils that can add intrigue to your walls.
2. Don’t be afraid of color.
Ask yourself, ‘why not?,’ and go for something bold.
3. Mix Metals.
Mixing metals is trendy, and it also adds dimension and style to your space.

BREAKFAST BEAUTY
Designer, Owner: Rachel Frey Interiors
Photographer: Lindsey Rossman
When it comes to working with the nooks and crannies of your home–especially when they’ve been around for a few decades, Rachel Frey of Rachel Frey Interiors, says that embracing those quirks can make all the difference in design. The banquet-style breakfast nook Rachel created opened up the space and gave an opportunity to add more personal details like the gallery wall that is sure to be a conversation starter. While some projects were planned–the coffee station was truly a happy accident. “It was very last minute, and while I was designing the space, I had this moment where I said, ‘where am I going to put the coffee maker?’” Rachel says. Complete with open shelving and statement artwork, this station is a foolproof way to start mornings on the right foot.
Tips from the Expert
1. Don’t Rush.
Live in the space, and hone in on style and functional needs.
2. Go Big.
When working with a small space, picking a large decor piece can really make a statement without overpowering the room.
3. Keep the Cohesion.
If you have a color palette, carry that throughout the spaces that flow into one another for a seamless, stylish look.
