1. A Business Growing Up
Mudpies N’ Butterflies is a photography business that started in Dover, just outside of York, to provide maternity, newborn, children’s, and family portraits; they recently opened a second studio location downtown called The Loft York. After 17 years in business, Mudpies N’ Butterflies has expanded to focus on a more mature audience—including seniors, industrial and commercial clients, and couples—with their new downtown space and rebranded division.

2. Arcade in the Armory
Decades opened March 13 in Lancaster City. What is Decades, you may ask? It’s a six-lane bowling alley which also features an arcade, restaurant, and bar. The 90-year-old, 15,000-square-foot gymnasium now combines nostalgia with class, the historic Stahr Armory restored. The menu features creative cocktails, wine, beer, and a Southern-influenced menu driven by local cuisine. The arcade offers more than 25 retro games from Donkey Kong to SkeeBall.

3. Captive
Need a good summer read for your tween? This middle-grade book by Lancaster native Donna J. Stoltzfus is about a young boy named John who starts working at his Mennonite neighbor’s farm during World War II. German prisoners take over the farm, and John, a creative type with disapproving parents, always seems to draw when he has the chance. Captive is available to purchase at most major bookstores.
