With the holidays come annual gatherings, traditions founded and passed down by family and friends; sometimes generations old and sometimes new. They can be small and casual, large and grandiose, and in celebration of different beliefs that come with varying rituals. No matter the tradition, it’s safe to say in many cases, the gathering of loved ones is a common theme centered around holiday fare that requires some level of baking. The preparation of baked holiday favorites is often a labor of love, meant to be shared with the ones you love, whether you’re baking yourself or buying from a bakery.
In this issue, we asked local bakeries to share their favorite holiday recipe and story behind it. Every recipe is unique and befitting to each establishment’s origin, filled with sentiment. The tales of their past that led them to share creations with the community are heartening, as is each coveted recipe. We can surely all relate with our own beginnings and anecdotes of current and past holiday traditions. As much as we can all relate, I think we can agree that the heart and intention behind holiday baking is what makes it so special.
Flip through to page 26 and decide if you’d like to add a new recipe to your holiday menu or purchase it straight from the heart of the source. Either way, you’ll be partaking in the heart of holiday baking.
I hope you enjoy all this season has in store for you, and happy holidays!
