YSO Audition #3: Diane Wittry

The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) will welcome internationally acclaimed music director and conductor, Diane Wittry, for an audition concert to become YSO’s next music director on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Wittry’s performance will be the last of three audition concerts held from Nov. through March.
The three audition finalists were selected from a pool of over 115 conductor candidates from all around the world. All of the candidates’ performances are being evaluated by members of the YSO search committee, orchestra musicians, the Board of Directors, and the audience itself. The search committee will make a final recommendation to the YSO Board of Directors at the end of the 2013-2014 season. The new music director is scheduled to be announced to the public by the YSO Board of Directors in May of 2014.
Diane Wittry has received international acclaim for her work as a music director and conductor. Currently serving as the music director of the Allentown, PA Symphony Orchestra, Wittry has championed an exciting, innovative programming style for concerts of all types. Over the years, Diane Wittry has received many honors and awards, including the American Symphony Orchestra League’s Helen M. Thompson Award for outstanding artistic leadership of a regional orchestra. Most recently, she became only the third American to be named – in recognition of her leadership in the arts and humanities – the recipient of the prestigious Fiorino Doro Award from the City of Vinci, Italy.
