If you enjoy traditional crafts and like to see amazing things being made by hand, you won’t want to miss this year’s Fox Chapel Publishing Open House and Woodworking Show on may 13-14, 2016. At least 2,000 people are expected to gather for the annual event at the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association, fifteen minutes east of Rockvale Outlets on Rt. 30 in Lancaster County.
Visitors can watch live performances, explore exhibits, and enjoy the camaraderie of thousands of fellow woodworkers tat the show. Chainsaw carvers, blacksmiths, and woodworking clubs will all perform live demonstrations. Forty in-depth classes will be offered on each of the two days, taught by 25 woodworking authorities and ward-winning artisans. Leading manufacturers, including Groff & Groff Lumber, Arbortech Tools, MDI, and Seyco, will exhibit their latest woodworking tools and accessories. The show’s sponsor is Fox Chapel Publishing, an independent publisher whose woodworking magazines reach 60,000 subscribers in 57 different countries. For more information, visit Wood-Show.com.
All of this will take place at one of the world’s most unique and undiscovered open-air museums, the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association. This hidden jewel offers 33 acres of working historical equipment from the bygone days of farming and industry, including steam-powered trains, a steam-powered sawmill, steam-powered tractors, and vintage autos and trucks. The woodworking show coincides with Rough and Tumble’s “Spring Steam-up,” so the show provides a rare opportunity to take in two colorful attractions at the same time.
Buying a general admission ticket in advance ($5 per person) gives you entrance on both days. The woodworking classes, offered for both novice and experienced wood rafters, cost extra. Tickets are being offered at a discount if purchases before March 31, 2016. For more information, call 1-800-457-9112 or visit Wood-Show.com
