Christmas in the 1860s

Bring the whole family to a Civil War Christmas celebration on Friday, November 23 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. The Victorian Dance Ensemble will demonstrate dances and invite visitors to learn a dance from the era at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Artifacts of the 1860s will be on display. Come and see photography, newspapers and jewelry of the era. View a traditional table-top Christmas tree with candles and homemade ornaments. Learn about the Civil War custom of sending boxes to soldiers, especially during the winter, filled with food, clothing and love from home. Free and open to the public.
