Author Talk: Newbery Honor-winning graphic novelist Victoria Jamieson

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) hosts a public presentation by a Lancaster refugee and the Newbery Honor-winning graphic artist who has written and illustrated his story.

When Stars Are Scattered follows the experience of Omar Mohamed growing up as a Somali refugee with his brother, Hassan, in the Dadaab camp in Kenya. The book is a collaboration between Mohamed and graphic novelist Victoria Jamieson, whose New York Times bestselling Roller Girl was a Newbery Honor Award Winner.

Mohamed and Jamieson will talk about that collaboration on Tuesday, March 31, from 1-2 pm in the Atrium of PCA&D, 204 N. Prince St. The event is free and open to the public.

Mohamed now lives in Lancaster and works for Church World Service as a resettlement case manager and cultural navigator for new refugees. He is the founder of Refugee Strong, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering children living in refugee camps by providing support and hope through education.

Jamieson, a native of Havertown and graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, lives with her family in Pennsylvania.

The talk is part of the Diverse Voices Speaker Series presented by PCA&D’s Liberal Arts Department.
