Transitional White Kitchen
Designer: Amber Miller, Bareville Kitchens & Designs
It was a new, old home and one that slated for a major remodel project. The client went to the designer asking her to come and look at a house they were considering purchasing. They loved the home and location but knew, in order to make it theirs, a great room addition and major kitchen overhaul would be necessary. The design team took a look at the home and left completely confident and excited to be given the challenge of creating a dream kitchen and this existing and non-existing space.
The client wanted white cabinetry, countertops, and backsplash. She wanted a huge island for her family to be able to gather around. Dark, outdated cherry cabinetry anchored the kitchen and the island was not near large enough to hold the activity of their family created. Working with the builder, Bareville was able to plan an addition off the back of the house, which included a new great room and provided expanded pace for the kitchen they truly envisioned. With the great-room addition to the back of the house, one problem they ran into with the kitchen layout was incorporating a support post into the design that could not be removed without compromising the integrity of the house. They were able to integrate it with cabinetry as part of the one island. The top portion of the post was paneled in white so as not to draw the eye to it.
A wall was pushed back and a doorway moved in order to accommodate the built-in freezer and refrigerator columns and double oven. A new, larger kitchen window was installed to provide a steady stream of natural light. The homeowners needed a floor that would be hardworking for their busy family yet beautiful and timeless so tile was chosen. Beautiful veined white Quartz countertops and white tile backsplash. Gray instead of navy was used as a secondary color with big, bold brass accents. A black honed granite counter was used on one island and a walnut base was used on the other. White herringbone tile behind the hood was topped it all off with stunning lantern pendants over the work island. To stay within budget, the “extra” details were prioritized and planned accordingly.

Aged to Perfection
Designer: elizaBeth Marcocci, Mother Hubbard’s Custom Cabinetry
The 1879 Victorian home was in dire need of a kitchen remodel. Previous remodels and changes over 139 years had left it lacking in functionality and usable space. The new owners’ love of “aged” homes and their desire to bring it back while taking it forward to achieve perfection were evident from the beginning.

Country Colonial Kitchen
Designer: Monica Riggins, G R Mitchell Inc.
Keeping the existing 1800s colonial style of the home while increasing better overall kitchen function was the objective for this home. Homeowners wanted an island for seating and increased lighting with pendants. The kitchen was updated by replacing existing cabinetry.
With relocation not an option, the refrigerator was built into existing pantry, not following standard rules. Special Features include decorative legs on the island, bead board backing, and skirting to stay with the style. Decorative upper wall cabinet ends were designed to keep with the country colonial style and create a nook to block the view of items on the counter from the side.

Formal Farmhouse
Designer: Sandra Steiner-Houck and co-designer Candis Warren Ashurst, Steiner-Houck & Associates
The new master bath design is much brighter and more grand, with a unique vanity wall featuring built-in mirrors that reflect the light from a large adjacent window. Minor structural changes were made to the existing space, including the removal of built-in niches and an angled wall in the shower. These changes allowed designers to take full advantage of the existing space to maximize the impact of the new design. Emperador Dark and Calacatta marble were selected for use throughout the room to compliment the soft and warm color of the cabinetry. A unique and subtle hand-painted blue accent detail on the cabinetry pulls the new design together with the clients’ existing window treatment in the space. The heated marble floors provide for a very luxurious and warm master bathroom.

Contemporary Bathroom
Designer: Allison Ong Shreffler, Harrisburg Architects
This original 4x8’ 1970s bathroom was cramped and tired. An adjacent walk in closet was relocated to allow for an enlarged master bathroom. The designer’s concept was to design a modern bathroom that was clean, classic, and timeless. The bathroom was also designed for the client to age in place. A zero threshold shower, chrome sliding glass doors hardware, grab bars, strategically placed controls, heated floors, and towel racks were all considerations. The Carrera inspired porcelain floor tiles continues up the wall for a clean, streamlined, and seamless aesthetic. 1x1” mosaic tiles were used in the shower to juxtapose the scale of the larger tile.A 6’ vanity was designed with elongated single bowl with two faucets. White quartz and a high gloss white paint was specified to enhance the clean modern streamlined design.

Tranquil Transitional Oasis
Designer: Monica Riggins, G R Mitchell Inc.
The clients needed an update to their master bath starting with removing an oversized, outdated built-in whirlpool bath. The designer also removed an existing toilet room to create a more open concept. A large custom tile shower with bench seat and attractive grab bars for aging in place was installed as well as a transom window for lighting. To create more functional storage throughout, a separate freestanding full-height base cabinet was added for storage and a landing for the husband’s wallet and keys. Extra drawers and roll out trays in new vanity base and cabinetry all offer ease of access and future aging in place. Added tall counter cabinet keeps everyday items out of view.
Custom framed wall mirrors were installed symmetrically above each vanity sink. Crown molding ran flush with tall counter cabinets to create seamless design. Client wanted the pebble look on the shower floor, but could not stand on the natural pebble flooring, so flat pebble tile was installed instead because it was more functional but stayed with the client’s desire. Burnished copper look accent tile was installed around the perimeter of the shower and inside the shower niche was well as on the front of the bench seat. This tile coordinates perfectly with the oil-rubbed bronze fixtures throughout.
