Sarah is the owner of Grandview Vineyards. During the pandemic, she was a key player in promoting her family’s wine making business to local restaurants, wine club members, venue guests, as well as the general public for fun social events, tastings and wine purchases. She was able to pivot the business which resulted in maintaining jobs to the employees and creating revenue for the company.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My biggest influence has been collectively the women of faith in my life, who have exhibited both strength and servanthood at the same time. My mother, who worked her way through college while raising four kids, working in a business and serving on countless volunteer committees. She was the first woman to be on the leadership team at church and taught me the importance of using your gifts, even when others don’t think it’s your place. My grandmothers, who were both very independent women that served in their communities and never wavered in their faith. And the women I now call my dear friends, who encourage, support, and challenge me on a daily basis.
What motivated you to be involved in your community?
Getting involved in the community is a way of getting outside of my comfort zone and connecting with others. What started out as an opportunity to network and get to know other business minded people, has turned into a real joy in helping others.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparison only steals joy from your life. Instead of striving to be more like someone else, ask God who he made YOU to be and then get better at being THAT person.
What’s your idea of self care?
A weekend at the cabin with girlfriends. No kids. No obligations. Time for laughter and time for quiet. On a daily basis, self care means quiet time to refocus and recenter.
What message do you have for the future generations of women?
Surround yourselves with men and women that will not only support and encourage, but also challenge you. Strength is not having it all together or doing it all on your own, but instead having the faith to lean on God and others. There will be times when life knocks you to your knees. Strength is having the courage to get back up, and having the perseverance to keep going, even when you feel like you can’t.
