The Relationship
When your house burns down, you don't expect it to lead to anything good. But when a fire trashed Jay's frat house, he accepted an offer to move in with a friend: Jessi. Eight years later they took their vows.
The Theme
Vintage elements with an elegant, romantic garden look and splashes of eggplant, grey and ivory. Guests signed old postcards in lieu of a book. Flower- and candle-filled lanterns lit inventive “trees.” Vintage clocks and suitcases, purple argyles for Jason to match Jessi’s intensely grape purple heels, and a rockin’ purple and black candy bar rounded out this theme.
Jessi & Jason wrote their own vows and performed a self-uniting ceremony, a little-known Quaker tradition that has been legal in Pennsylvania for centuries.
The Details
Guests were greeted with flagged mini bottles of Prosecco or root beer and fed eclectic fare like Lamb Lollipops with Black Currant Sauce and Sesame-Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos. From edible spoon ragouts to artisan bread martinis to the finale—inside-out smores—the four-course cuisine by JDK was superb.
The Ring Bearer
Mini cupcakes with paw prints and dog treats to go were a hat tip to Riley, the couple’s Maltese-Pekingese mix “child.” The beaded bridal leash and a purple bow tie lent an air of elegance to this whimsical attendant, who fell asleep on the bride’s train and put in an appearance at the photo booth.
The Blooms
Picasso calla lilies, alstromeria, lisianthus, purple dahlia buds, and moss-accented tablescapes brought a true garden feel inside. With her blessing, Jessi took a scissors to her mother’s wedding dress to incorporate it into her bouquet along with lockets belonging to her great-grandparents.
The Unity
Jessi and Jay wrote their own vows and performed a self-uniting ceremony. This little-known Quaker tradition has been legal in Pennsylvania for centuries; anyone may perform the ceremony.
The Finds
After “a horrible experience” in New York City, Jessi and her mom made the rounds to “every single store in Central PA”. After trying “at least 150 dresses,” Renaissance Bridal’s Jonathon Sharpe nailed it. Jessi also raved about her coordinator, David Everett of Weddings by JDK, whom she calls “the next David Tutera.”
The Moment
In Jessi’s words, “We worked on this wedding for a year and a half. Seeing everything I dreamed of come true made me cry like a baby.”
