THE THREADS: The bride, maiden name Jenna Lark, loved the first dress she tried on. Pronovias, 1920s feel, with lace cap sleeves, simple chiffon train, and lots of back buttons. It paired with her mother’s wedding veil, complete with a small hole from mom’s reception. Bridesmaids dressed in black gowns of their own choosing, so they could feel like themselves.
THE SETTING: Industrial chic, with brick walls and wood beams dressed up in crisp black and white. An Oak barrel took the place of a cake stand. Table place cards sat on a wrought-iron scroll, with cards designed by Jenna, a graphic designer. Great Britain’s Union Jack hung on the wall to recognize Dan’s native Newcastle, England, and the friends and family who crossed the Atlantic for the occasion.
THE INVITES: Jenna designed all the stationery, classic in black and white. The black and white stripes on the invitations honored Dan’s favorite soccer team, Newcastle United.
THE HITCH: Doing your own flowers takes a lot more work than expected. Friends and family pitched in, filling cylinder vases with white orchids and topping them with white hydrangeas and roses. The morning of the wedding, the bride was wrapping white flowers in black ribbon for bouquets.
THE SERENDIPITY: Jenna and Dan felt awkward about their first dance to Elton John’s “Your Song.” Their adorable two-year-old niece toddled onto the dance floor and rocked with them in time to the music. Bride and groom could relax because no one was watching them anymore.
