You know how they say home is where the heart is? Well, treat your home to a whole day of self-care activities you’ll enjoy doing straight from the heart.
There’s no better place than your home to practice real self-care. The best part about self-care at home is that you can mix up the routine whenever you want; you can also do the routines at your own pace; and you can continue doing the self-care routine at home during or after the pandemic.
Keep reading to see if any of these self-care ideas are on your self-care checklist at home.
Keep Your Digital Devices off
To have the best self-care day (at-home), you may need to reduce the amount of digital distractions you partake in. Whether that’s by using your phone, your computer, or any of your favorite social media platforms, a digital detox is a good way to clear your mind and promote mental health.
From time to time, it’s also good idea to disconnect from all technological devices so that you can reconnect with nature or the “outside” world for a change.
On self-care day, make sure to turn off all of digital devices for at least six hours (longer is great!) and occupy yourself with other self-care activities like completing your morning routine, making your bed, cooking breakfast, dressing yourself, and practicing morning meditation.
Read a Book
Once you’re finished with your morning activities, it’s time to move on to the afternoon portion of the self-care day. When you’re in need of a good distraction and have nowhere else to go, there’s nothing like getting lost in a good book.
Now if reading isn’t for you, opt to do something more creative and artsy like scrapbooking old photos, learning to paint or draw, or coloring in an adult coloring book. Adult coloring books are actually mean so much more than just coloring a book by the numbers. These books are very therapeutic, relaxing, calming, organizational, and they help to keep you focused.
Work on a Puzzle
Additionally, if you’re looking for an activity that keeps you far away from your phone while stimulating your brain at the same time, try working on a jigsaw puzzle with a ton of pieces. You can even invite a family member or a friend to help you finish the puzzle or you can totally finish it yourself, whichever way works!
Go for a Walk Around the Neighborhood
Alright, time to break free from the indoors and head outside for a leisurely walk around the park and through the neighborhood. Hopefully your self-care day brings lots of sunshine and blue skies so you can enjoy the beautiful weather to the fullest. It feels just as amazing to get some fresh air, clear your mind, and exercise those tired legs.
Take a Bubble Bath
After such a productive day, it’s now time to take a long bubble bath. Create your very own spa experience at home -- complete with bath bombs, candles, calming music, essential oils, and of course, don’t forget the bubbles!
Indulge in Taking Care of Your Skin
While treating yourself in the tub, apply a wet face mask and let it soak into your skin for about ten minutes before washing it off. After the bath, make sure to use a good moisturizer to replenish your skin from dehydration.
Write in a Journal
Another self-care activity that’s key to a great day is writing in a journal. Get your pen out and document the events of the day and detail what you look forward to on the next day.
In your journal, you can also talk about three to five things you like about yourself or even script out a descriptive letter to your future self about your love for peanut butter. It’s totally up to you! The benefits of writing can help you let go of unwanted information you’ve been harboring unto for a long time.
Go to Bed Early
For the most part, this is so much easier said than done. Get a quick start on this by going to bed an hour early before your normal sleep time. By doing this, you’ll give yourself enough time to unwind, clear your mind, read a chapter from a book, and meditate before sleeping.
Listen a Soothing Playlist
Before going to bed, one of the best self-care practices (at home) is to meditate or listen to music. When it’s time to fall asleep, you’ll want to become one with the soothing sounds that you hear while meditating. The calming sounds help you to relax your body and fall asleep quicker. Upon waking up, you’ll realize just how refreshed you feel to begin a brand new day.
