The autumn season is among us, which means it’s the perfect time for a fall-themed DIY!
I love everything about autumn: fall foliage, bonfires, and the crisp morning air. Even more, I love fall-themed home décor. There’s no denying it, I can spend hours in stores looking at decorative pumpkins and pillows, but what better way to decorate your home than by adding a personal touch?
Front doors are usually the first thing people notice about a home. Which is why a DIY wreath is the perfect way to spruce up your front door!
What you’ll need:
- One embroidery hoop (I used an 8-inch one)
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Scissors
- Twine
- 1.5-inch width ribbon
- 3/8-inch width ribbon
- Assortment of orange, red, and yellow flowers
- Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Step 1: Make a layout of your wreath
I find that preplanning how you want the wreath to look is helpful once you start gluing. Play around with different flower shapes and colors—let your creativity guide you! You can always make changes later, if you find something isn’t working.
Step 2: Wrap twine around embroidery hoop
Like most people, I am twine obsessed. I find that it adds great texture to the wreath. I used hot glue on the rim of the hoop, and then wrapped the twine around it. Adding the glue helped keep the twine sturdy.
Step 3: Start gluing your flowers and cinnamon sticks
Use the scissors to snip any stems to make the flowers easier to glue on. Once glued, hold for about 10 seconds to ensure that the flower is sturdy. Here, you will see the progression of how I added each piece.
Step 4: Add two bows to the top of the wreath and add twine to hang the wreath
Use the thicker ribbon to create a bow around the wreath. Cut the ends at an angle for a cleaner look. Then create another bow with the thinner ribbon and glue it directly onto the middle of the larger one.
Step 5: Hang and enjoy!
Now you have your own fall-themed wreath that showcases your creativity!
