Ahhh. I can feel it now. The warmth on my (pasty, white) skin, the cool, but refreshing breeze. Shall I say it? Spring is almost here!
You are probably ready to ditch the oversized sweaters and blanket scarves just as much as I am, but not quite ready to dive into the flirty sundresses either. Despite the eagerness for the warmer weather, this time of year can be tricky in terms of fashion. Is it warm enough for a sleeveless dress? Isn’t it supposed to be a little chilly though?
No worries. I will share with you how I transition my wardrobe from winter to spring. I have a few staples that I consider my must have, go-to pieces.
Utility Jacket
It is time to pack away your goose down jackets for the next several months and dust off (or purchase) a utility jacket. I have been wearing one for years, as it is a classic wardrobe staple that doesn’t go out of style. It can be worn as both a functional piece (your jacket) or as an accessory (to complete the look). They are typically lightweight enough to keep you warm, but not too hot. They also help you get some more wear out of those sleeveless dresses you might not want to wear yet.
Denim Jacket
I couldn’t live without my denim jacket. This is what gets me through the questionable weather days, where you aren’t sure if it’s going to be warm, cold or in between. Plus, it makes a great accessory for those looks that just need a little something extra. It is also a piece (like the utility jacket) that will never go out of style. With all of the different washes and styles of denim jackets, you are sure to find one that suits you.
Layer with Lightweight Knits
Layering is of course another great way to transition your wardrobe into the warmer months. I like to stock up on lightweight cardigans, tops, dresses and skirts that when worn together are seasonally appropriate, but can be worn separately. It can be tricky to layer well sometimes, but the key is to make sure you are comfortable. There is nothing worse than layering to the point where you can’t move your arms!
This time of year is also perfect for pairing those ankle booties with your fun dresses. Top off your look with one of the key pieces listed above and you have the perfect transition outfit. Once the temperatures start to increase, swap the booties for a pair of sandals, ditch the cardigan or jacket for a fun Panama hat and you have yourself the perfect summer look.
It’s easier to transition your wardrobe than you think. Just think light layers and key lightweight jackets.
